The VA Loma Linda Health Care System is currently recruiting one (1) Program Support Assistant in Surgical Service. The primary purpose of the position is to provide administrative support to the supervisor of the service. The Program Support Assistant will perform detailed related duties in assisting the administrative staff in Surgical Service.
DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Submits all employee payroll and attendance actions.
Purchases supplies for the service.
Maintains subject matter files and records for the service.
Track the OPPE/FPPE due dates.
Publishes and maintains the call schedule for surgical sections.
Performs office automation duties using software applications.
Ability to use and train others in CPRS, VISTA and VATAS
Answers incoming calls and routes to the correct area.
Assist in annual inventory of equipment for the surgical service.
Provide excellent customer service.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm PST

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: answer incoming calls, coordinate meetings, and serve as the Ongoing Professional Practice (OPPE) / Focused Professional Practice (FPPE) tracker; provide administrative support to the Chief of Surgery and Sections Chiefs and program personnel as requested; submits all employee payroll time and attendance actions through VATAS; and purchases supplies using a government credit card for Surgical Service Fund Control Points.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-06 level. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have graduate education directly related to the work of the position.
Proficiency Requirements: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for this position must show possession of the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years.
