About the Position: This is a Medical Support Assistant position located at Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California.

Duties

Act as the primary point of contact for all the beneficiaries requiring outpatient dental services. Independently develop and maintain monthly appointment schedules for providers, including staff, residents (if applicable), and hygienists. Confirm all scheduled dental appointments one day prior and utilize patient call list to fill canceled or failed appointments. Maintain active duty and other select beneficiary dental records, including verifying complete entries, appropriate forms, and chronological order of records and filing. Perform other administrative duties related to the administration of dental records, scheduling, and recall as required by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. Are you willing and able to meet the lifting requirement?
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position requires Tuberculosis and Hep B testing.

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer SkillsInterpersonal SkillsManagement Support Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
