About the Position: This position is in the Naval Medical Center Office of Dir. of Medicine, Infectious Diseases, San Diego, California. San Diego is a city on the Pacific coast of California known for its beaches, parks and warm climate. Immense Balboa Park is the site of the San Diego Zoo, as well as numerous art galleries, art studios museums and gardens. A deep harbor is the Home to a large active naval fleet, with the USS Midway an aircraft-carrier-turned-museum, open to the public.
Duties
Responsible for the efficient operation of the clinic appointment desk.
Provide administrative support to the organization by completing management directed studies.
Responsible for interviewing and selecting administrative support staff.
Train civilian, military and contract employees to be competent in the utilization of various information systems.
Independently reviews charts of patients being discharged from the clinic for completeness of information.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG).
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes enter, manipulate, and retrieve information and data from a medical automatic system. Schedule, reschedule and coordinate appointments for patients with various clinics. Establish guidance on calls that are received or made by staff are professional, courteous, tactful, and responses given are appropriate. Provide information regarding unit, clinic and hospital policies, procedures, and locations to patients, family members, staff, etc..
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
