Duties

Located at the National Advocacy Center (NAC) in Columbia, South Carolina. The NAC is the primary facility for training attorneys and support staff in the Department of Justice (DOJ) and 93 United States Attorneys' Offices (USAOs) nationwide, as well as other Executive Branch attorneys and Federal agencies. If selected for this position, you will serve as an Administrative Services Specialist for the Office of Legal Education Staff, Administrative Division. Duties include: Providing a variety of administrative management analysis and direct support services. Responsible for contracting and procurement for supplies, equipment, furniture, and services. Obligating funds for approved procurements. Performing human resources management duties which include new employee orientation, employee benefits, performance management, position management, human resources development, and personnel security for employees and contractors. Providing guidance on the management and use of the office's manpower, and physical resources, and on administrative policies, practices, and procedures. Responsible for providing guidance to assure the proper management of all records and information, in any media (e.g., paper, CD, DVD, tapes, voice mail, etc.) in the office. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-11: To be eligible at the GS 11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Examples of specialized experience include assisting with budget execution; preparing documents and reports for higher level review; coordinates meetings to include use of automated equipment and related IT technology. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field: a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. GS-12: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Examples of specialized experience include assisting with budget execution; assists with the procurement of goods and services; analyzes administrative programs within the organization for effectiveness; assists with the management of records and information in any media format to ensure compliance. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
