The primary purpose of this position is: Manage the squadron's Combat Arms Program. Oversees the Combat Weather Squadron's Combat Arms ground weapons training, maintenance, ground munitions & small arms range programs. Oversee training, qualifying, & certifying instructors & Air Force (AF) personnel on AF small arms & light weapons (SA/LW) & courses of fire.

Duties

Manage the 3d Combat Weather Squadron's Combat Arms (CA) Program and serve as the Commander's ground weapons training, maintenance, ground munitions, and small arms range program subject matter expert. Perform Armory operations, field maintenance, weapon inspections, repairs, and inventory. Perform CA Instructor and Range Operation duties. Supervise, coach, train, and certify Squadron personnel on proper SA/LW handling procedures, marksmanship fundamentals, short-range combat techniques, limited visibility techniques, weapon employment, and weapon safety procedures

Qualifications

Conditions of Employment Continued: Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with security duties. Incumbent is required to obtain first responder training/certifications required in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually. Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques, and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations. This is a Key position. The duties of this position meets all requirements as a category 4 designation, and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CANNOT become a member of the Ready Reserve (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve). The incumbent is required to meet all requirements of Federal, DOD, Air Force, Army, State, and local level rules and regulations to maintain certification and qualification on assigned weapon systems. Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, GS 1712 series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed at least one full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position; or I have a bachelor's degree in education or a subject area related to the position and am claiming Superior Academic Achievement. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Be a graduate of a military service branch Combat Arms Apprentice Course or equivalent civilian/industry partner program. 2. Knowledge of service-based programs and objectives, processes involved in military training programs, and/or processes relating to training programs in parallel business and industry organizations. Knowledge of special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls and preventing unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced protecting Assigned Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AA&E) assets. 3. Knowledge of Army/Air Force armory and range operations and procedures. Knowledge of principles, techniques, and safety of instruction used in combat arms weapons training, firing range instruction, AA&E security, and small arms and light weapons repair procedures. 4. Skills in combat arms resources management, including maintenance of assigned weapons, classrooms, firing range structures, munitions buildings, and weapons storage facilities. 5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and instruct training courses in a classroom seminar setting to include the development of course materials and presentation of formal and informal courses and briefings. 6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the function of a small to large sized organization; and mentor, motivate, and lead enlisted instructors on the technical aspects of the work performed. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
