The Director of Physician Assistant Services is organizationally aligned to the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Office of Patient Care Services and reports to the Deputy Assistant Under Secretary for Health (DAUSH) for Patient Care Services. The Director of Physician Assistant Services advises Department of Veterans Affairs senior management of all matters relating the employment and effective utilization of Physician Assistants.

Duties

The Director of Physician Assistant Services (DPAS) provides consultation on the appropriate role of Physician Assistants (PA) in a variety of settings and capacities recruitment strategies, credentialing requirements, and ongoing educational needs. The incumbent is expected to collaborate with various staff in order to develop policy documents and reports, and provide commentary on clinical and administrative issues that may impact on the utilization of PAs and other non-physician practitioners. The DPAS will provide leadership to a field based PA-Field Advisory Committee (PA-FAC) which will include monthly conference calls and at least one face-to-face meeting annually. Issues needing resolution involving PAs or other non-physician practitioners will be discussed with the members and their input and recommendations will be documented and reported to the DAUSH. The DPAS may be required to attend meetings, attend professional conferences and work on task forces or work groups as needed. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm EST, 40 hours per week Note: This is a Detail opportunity Not-to-Exceed 1-Year. Telework: This position may be eligible for a telework agreement (telework 50% of the time at the closest VA facility) based on the needs of the department. Basic Requirements: Physician Assistant SR-0603 Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~ Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~ Current, full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. To meet the minimum qualifications, applicants must possess all of the necessary requirements for this position, you MUST SHOW in your RESUME that you possess the five Mandatory Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) along with the Technical Qualification(s) outlined below. Eligibility will be based on clear and concise accomplishments that emphasize your level of responsibilities, scope and complexity of programs managed, program accomplishments (with results), policy initiatives and level of contacts. Preferred Experience: Six years of experience that included assignments which involved directing and evaluating complex patient care or administrative programs, services or operations for a healthcare system or at multiple sites. The assignments would have required planning, organizing and assessing healthcare services or programs; implementing national initiative and organizational targets; developing long and short-term program goals; and analyzing, developing options and implementing solutions to health care operational or administrative problems.
