This announcement is for TEMPORARY, INTERMITTENT positions NTE 1 year/1040 hours. This position is located in the Office of Medical Services and the incumbent in this position is a Re-employed Annuitant on an intermittent appointment temporarily filling vacant medical positions at overseas posts or domestically when there are staffing shortages or extended staffing gaps. This position requires world-wide travel, often on short notice.
Duties
Provide primary and preventive health care services across the lifespan. Obtains the patient history, performs physical assessments to include diagnosis and treatment, emergency and acute care services.
Manage health unit personnel and resources, inventory of supplies, provides training, maintains budget and medical records and facilitate emergency visitation travel.
Collaborates with local, international healthcare providers and experts to deliver services, implement emergency actions and performs as occupational health advisor.
Interpret and revise policies and procedures relating to emergency preparedness, counter-terrorism, emergency action plans, and medical training.
Maintain health records, provide infectious disease prevention, CPR and first aid training.

Qualifications

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F.
Applicants MUST meet the required basic entry qualification requirements described below:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants must meet the following basic requirements for all grade levels:
Education: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Certification: Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
IN ADDITION to the basic requirements, this position requires one year of specialized experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Experience analyzing, evaluating and providing expert advice and consultation to make decisions and recommendations concerning programs, patient primary and preventive health care services.
Experience conducting physical examinations and interpreting findings.
Experience determining emergency care services and interrupting diagnostic tests.
Experience advocating and defending judgments and decisions to effectively communicate and gain acceptance of findings.
