This position is located in Department of Homeland, U.S. Coast Guard, Sector New York, Engineering Division - Structures Shop, Staten Island, NY.
Duties
The purpose of this position is to serve as a leader within the Structural Maintenance Shop responsible for assigning work received to team members.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.Typical work assignments include:* Assigning work to individual team members in the following trades: painting, carpentry, roofing, masonry, and grounds. * Insuring that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. * Checking work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions. * Explaining what tasks are to be done by assigned employees and how they are to be accomplished. Answering workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. * Providing information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems. * Assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.* Performing a variety of trades duties required in the general maintenance of commercial and residential type facilities.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
- Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: * Ability To Lead Or Supervise (Screen-out Element)* Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc * Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)* Use of Measuring Instruments* Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)* Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.* Knowledge of MaterialsNational Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
