This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Sector New York, Facilities Engineering Division, Staten Island, NY.
Duties
You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial and residential building/structures and the associated components and systems. Work utilizing the basic building/construction trades to include electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, roofing, masonry, painting and equipment operations. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member for the Coast Guard team:Typical work assignments include:- Managing all aspects of work assignments, developing methods for project execution, establishing standards, and reviewing work for quality and timeliness in meeting scheduled completion dates.-Estimating labor hours required by various trades, material costs and equipment requirements for projects.-Determining needs for commercially subcontracted portions of projects and developing scope of work and obtaining quotes for subcontracts. -Establishing deadlines, priorities, and work sequences and coordinating projects with other supervisors, other CG organizations and customers, and with subcontractors.-Supervising, coordinating and inspecting work of subordinates.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
- Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
