About the Position:
The incumbent will serve as a Senior Geographer for the Warfighter Support Directorate of the U.S. Army Geospatial Center (AGC). The position requires formulating and conducting analytical, military planning and operational requirements using state-of-the-art geographic information systems (GIS) data integration.
Duties
Perform method and/or applications development and data integration, as well as rapid data prototyping, based on the application of principles and techniques from geographic information systems (GIS)
Function as the senior technical monitor for portions of assigned information system resources that are staffed under contract support.
Find innovative ways to disseminate varied terrain analyses on an ever-changing global network, using automated cartography, remote sensing extraction techniques
Coordinate or supports geospatial development and data integration objectives, programs and results with other laboratories, agencies and institutions in area(s) of specialization
Maintain currency in the state-of-the-art through an aggressive program of literature review, formal training and professional interaction including participation in professional meetings and symposia
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Able to obtain and maintain TOP SECRET security clearance
- Require Drug Test clearance

Basic Requirement for Geographer:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. (You MUST submit a copy of your transcript with your application package or you will be rated ineligible)
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.(You MUST submit a copy of your transcript with your application package or you will be rated ineligible)
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience with 1)Geography as it relates to geospatial, imagery analysis and in geospatial applications; making verbal presentations;2) in reading and using numerous formats and types of maps to produce studies;3) experience with forestry, geology, cartography, physical and/or earth sciences to include skill in field collection This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
