You will serve as a NUCLEAR MECHANICAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR (SHIPS) in the QUALITY ASSURANCE DEPARTMENT, NUCLEAR INSPECTION DIVISION (Code 139) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.
Duties
You will perform mechanical, piping, and structural inspections, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections, various test, certification and acceptance of completed work reviews on nuclear reactor plant, refueling, and overhaul work.
You will perform weld joint in-process and acceptance inspections for nuclear welding and non-destructive tests (NDT).
You will ensure and document reactor grade cleanliness and shipboard systems by performing surveillance inspections as they deem fit and performing final inspection prior to final system closure.
You will maintain records on inspections performed, results of these inspections and corrective actions taken in accordance with local directives.
You will interpret diagrams, specifications, drawings and interrelated procedures and technical requirements to most critical job applications.
You will use special measuring and inspection devices such as precision micrometer, precision gauge blocks, Heise gauges, durometer testers, thread gauges, bore scopes, and Vernier calipers.
You will initiate and authorize rejection of workmanships, components, materials, and procedures that do not meet specifications by preparing a Nuclear Deficiency Report.
You will verify materials by conducting physical test, physical comparison or certification documentation.
You will identify and document on nuclear deficiency reports incidents related to the interconnected systems to be signed by the inspector.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
