As an Engineering Technician (Mechanical), you will be responsible for providing technical and management support to the operation of the facilities, the distribution and cooling systems in the program areas of contract administration and inspection, project management and negotiations, occupational safety and health and fire safety.

We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed.
Duties
Provide technical support toward facilities management for the facilities and distribution system and other duties may be assigned related to overall plant function to include initiation of critical and emergency repairs and operations. Develop and tracks short and long-term repair and alteration program for the facilities.
Assist in monitoring and inspecting facilities' water quality and chemical addition programs to determine adherence to the contractors' water treatment program to ensure the program is being carried out in field office buildings minimizing corrosion and scale of Government equipment. Assist in preparing designs and specifications for utility systems: Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilating (HVAC), plumbing, and pneumatic control systems. Assist in monitoring and inspecting assigned facilities' mechanical systems to ensure contractors are operating and maintaining them to maximize mechanical reliability and minimize system inefficiencies. Advise on methods of operation and set points of pneumatic, electronic, and electric metering controls.
Assist with the development of cost estimates for competitive bidding for multiple-use construction projects. Determine (a) construction operations and methods involved and the time required to complete each phase or feature, (b) various type and capabilities of construction equipment required and cost of operation and maintenance, (c) material types and quantities, and (d) overhead and other costs. Assist in developing and evaluating repairs, alteration and systems replacement project concepts, designs, costs, benefits, and priorities.
Assist with the inspections of all phases of work, conducts engineering tests, furnish technical assistance to supervisors and initiate or recommend corrective actions or improvements in the operation, maintenance, repair and administration. Ensure that operators are familiar with the systems or equipment. Make sketches and working drawings of improvement projects to be accomplished. Prepare statements of work for the Contract Specialist's when detailed engineering specifications are required. Update and revise mechanical, electrical, controls and piping schematics and drawings.

If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected. To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or higher in the Federal service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Specialized experience is experience in the operation of high-pressure steam, refrigeration and boiler systems to include monitoring, operational servicing and troubleshooting of plant mechanical and electrical systems.
