As an Environmental Protection Specialist (EPS), understand and advise NASA personnel on environmental laws, regulations, policies and processes at Johnson Space Center, Ellington Field and Sonny Carter Training Facility in Houston, TX. The EPS will ensure no mission impacts result from environmental requirements for drinking water, stormwater, and wastewater programs. EPS will manage all communications with the regulators and host all internal and external compliance inspections.
Duties
Plans, coordinates, advises, and provides support/assistance to the Environmental Management Office, Center Operations Directorate, and other Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations for compliance with all applicable environmental laws/requirements.
Develops, reviews, and implements internal and external regulations, standards, policies, and operating guidance relating to environmental compliance and planning.
Supports environmental compliance enforcement through applicable assessments of laws, regulations, and policies; and through the execution of assessments, audits, inspections, and investigations.
Administers programs and projects to ensure environmental compliance for Center operations and closes past violations or compliance issues.
Reviews Statement of Work or Performance Work Statements to ensure environmental requirements have been completed as required by contractors.
Understands and oversees corrective action measures, non-conformities, and root cause analysis; participates in formal and informal environmental compliance risk analysis discussions with mid-level and senior-level management.
Serves as the subject matter expert (SME) on all Water Programs including drinking, storm, and waste as well as National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) efforts at JSC.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
Administering environmental compliance programs and the laws, regulations, and federal policies governing environmental compliance, including Stormwater, Wastewater and Drinking Water for large and industrial operations;
Providing advice regarding the Petroleum Oil and Lubricant (POL) program, including spill planning;
Supporting the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) program to minimize environmental impacts of large federal or industrial projects.
