As an Accessibility Specialist (Training Coordinator), you will participate in the rulemaking responsibilities of the Board, perform analysis and evaluation of complex issues, concerning accessibility. and provide professional advice, technical assistance, and training to those agencies, industries, organizations, and individuals seeking to implement related accessibility guidelines, standards, and policies.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-14. This position will be filled at the GS-13 level, and you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
Applies knowledge of social science and an understanding of human factors related to the architectural accessibility of buildings, transportation vehicles, facilities, and equipment (including information and communications technology) to the process by which the Board develops national policy concerning accessible, barrier-free environments and equipment. The rules developed through this process constitute accessibility guidelines and standards that have diverse application to any number of areas including buildings of all types; transportation facilities and vehicles; recreational facilities; and information and communications technology.
Acts as a team leader who performs and directs team members in performing extensive fact-finding and analysis to develop, present, and defend recommendations for existing, new, or revised U.S. policy concerning accessibility.
Serves as the Training Coordinator for the agency, assuming responsibility for clear, consistent, and effective service to the public by either providing directly or, by organizing other staff to present training on accessibility guidelines and standards to various groups and organizations.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 calendar days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
Assisting with the development, organization, and presentation of accurate and professional quality training materials for diverse audiences affected by accessibility requirements, including professionals, people with disabilities, and other stakeholders; AND
Making presentation materials accessible to audiences with disabilities and in webinar formats; AND
Researching new requirements for accessible environments and equipment; AND
Providing technical assistance regarding accessibility requirements to other specialists.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks.
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
