About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Department of Behavioral Health, Psychology Services in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.

Duties

Serve as a Clinical Supervisor in Behavioral Health. Perform professional counseling and addiction medicine treatment in support of patients with alcohol and substance abuse diagnosis. Conduct evaluations of clients referred for consultation from the individual, family members, commanding officers, supervisors, agents of the courts, and medical personnel. Counsel patients on primary and secondary illnesses, formulate diagnostic impressions, and makes clinical assessments to inform treatment decision-making. Primary case management for implementing complex treatment plans, documents case findings, diagnoses, and recommendations in a clear and concise manner. Develop and implements orientation and training for patients, medical staff, commanders and key unit personnel, supervisors, and in the community. Supervise military personnel, federal civilian employees, and oversees contractor performance assigned to the Clinic.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Degree: Two full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes counseling substance abuse patients, overseeing substance abuse treatment performed by other counselors, and planning work of subordinates. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted counseling/psychologist license from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
