The Staff Assistant performs front desk reception duties and administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the office. The Staff Assistant is required to have a working knowledge of all aspects of the division, as well as a broad understanding of the Office of the Sergeant at Arms and all applicable legal requirements, House Rules, Committee, and Sergeant at Arms policies and procedures.

Duties

Responsibilities: Answers the telephone and routes the calls to the appropriate staff person. Greets and assists incoming visitors. Performs various administrative assignments. Requests and records clearance verification information for incoming visitors. Schedules briefings and meetings; verifies clearances of attendees and briefers; provides an access list verifying identities, and controls classified information created or provided for the briefings. Ensures safe delivery of classified material to appropriate locations within the Capitol and House Office Buildings. Maintains conference room usage database. Maintains office files, accounts, and supplies. Prepares conference rooms for briefings. Serves as the Office Emergency Coordinator for the division. Tracks and maintains the security clearances for all cleared Fellows assigned to the U.S. House of Representatives. Assists the division with special projects. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the House of Representatives, Office of the Sergeant at Arms and all applicable legal requirements, House Rules, Committee, Sergeant at Arms and U.S. Capitol Police policies and procedures; excellent oral communication skills; strong written communications skills; strong organizational skills; strong computer skills; detail oriented; professional telephone manner; ability to listen carefully and respond in a tactful and courteous manner to requests and inquiries from Members of Congress, Congressional staff, official business visitors, and the general public; ability to work well under pressure and maintain a professional and courteous work disposition; ability to maintain and troubleshoot office equipment to include telephones, copiers, and fax machines. Work Schedule: Full-time, permanent. Monday - Friday, 8:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Requirements

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Minimum of one year of office experience. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret/SCI security clearance.
