Duties
Serves as a working leader in the Fire Protection Branch assuring the work of other employees in the group are carried out by relaying work instructions, sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
Performs maintenance, repair, and minor construction tasks of steam and pipe related portions on various buildings and structures.
Reviews and verifies correct usage of job order numbers and cost codes on employee's daily timesheets and provides information on weekly progress schedules.
Assures safety and housekeeping rules are followed and reports to the supervisor the status and progress of work, causes of work delays, and other concerns.
Uses building plans, blueprints, and sketches to determine the plan and lay out of routes, placements, and proper operations of systems and equipment.
Approves equipment and supply request forms.
Must obtain a Back Flow Testing License within one year to ensure proper testing, maintenance and record keeping of Back Flow devices, and will be required to attend the Fire Suppression School within a period of 3 years.
Must possess valid state driver's license and be capable of operating government vehicles from 1/2 ton to 1 1/2 ton trucks.

Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.
The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:
Basic Requirement/Selective Placement Factor: Must possess valid state driver's license and be capable of operating government vehicles from ½ ton to 1 ½ ton trucks.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where systems and equipment are in hard to reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles, lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally over 50 pounds. Must be able to wear all safety equipment and personal protective clothing required to perform assigned tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside, in dirty, dusty, and greasy installs, and makes repairs in areas where fumes are present. Incumbent is subject to uncomfortable heat conditions, strains, cuts, bruises, scrapes, infections, broken bones, etc., while performing work. Subject to working with or around asbestos piping and covering.
