This Maintenance Supervisor position is within the Facilities Management Services at the Providence VA Healthcare System, located in Providence, Rhode Island. It is full-time at 40 hours per week.
Due to budgetary constraints, this position is only open to CURRENT employees within this SERVICE LINE at this FACILITY.
Duties
This position is primarily responsible for the administration and supervision of four (4) shops in the following trades: HVAC, Plumbing/Electrical, Carpentry/General Maintenance Mechanics & Painters. The work performed by the different units is critical to the 24/7 operation of the medical center. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Prioritizes, integrates, and coordinates various work activities, as well as contracted work;
Estimates materials for repair, minor improvement, maintenance and station labor projects;
Ensures that preventive maintenance is performed on utility systems and building service equipment according to established policies and procedures;
Analyzes the physical plant utilities and subsystems for proper maintenance and visually assesses conditions of maintenance/repair activities;
Recommends promotion or reassignments of subordinate employees;
Recommends adjustments and rescheduling, as necessary, to respond to changing conditions and emergency or urgent needs and delays;
Sets procedures and schedules preventive maintenance of building and utility equipment to prevent breakdown and extend equipment life;
Assigns wide range of responsibilities throughout Maintenance and Operations assigned shops, identifies, and reports daily progress and milestones; and
Other duties as assigned.

Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment.
Selectee required to serve one year supervisory/managerial probationary period.
Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.
This position is not a Bargaining Unit position.
This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Supervisory Controls: The position receives general instructions from the Section Chief Maintenance Supervisor. The position is expected to perform assigned duties on own initiative, recognizing the need for work to be done without direct supervision or assistance or the need for intense review.
Physical Effort: The position requires walking, standing, bending, sitting, crawling and climbing. Incumbent must have good vision, with or without glasses. May lift or carry tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50lbs. May occasionally lift and carry items over 50lbs.
