This Maintenance Supervisor position is within the Facilities Management Services at the Providence VA Healthcare System, located in Providence, RI. It is full-time at 40 hours per week.

Duties

The position functions as the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor (M&O Supervisor) for Facilities Management Service at the Providence Rhode Island VA Medical Center (PVAMC). The position has full responsibility for the supervision of four (4) trade shops. The position is under the direct supervision of the Chief, Facilities Management Service. Position is primarily responsible for the administration and supervision of four (4) shops in the following trades: HVAC, Plumbing/Electrical, Carpentry/General Maintenance Mechanics & Painters. Duties include, but are not limited to: Prioritizes, integrates, and coordinates various work activities, as well as contracted work, for optimum effectiveness and efficiency of utilizing man-hours, equipment and funding resources to meet user, program, and mission needs; Continually monitors progress and trends on in-house projects, work orders, and preventive maintenance; Ensures that proper records for preventive maintenance are maintained; Sets procedures and schedules preventive maintenance of building and utility equipment to prevent breakdown and extend equipment life which, in turn, saves on emergency repairs, labor costs, and inconvenience due to system down time; Determines resource requirements, materials and the number of subordinates and the types of skill necessary to accomplish long-range work schedules; Provides information and advice to higher-level supervisors, management officials, and staff organizations on feasibility of work assignments as scheduled, budget estimates and workload data to assist in developing or reviewing proposed long-range schedules and work requirements and may participate with superiors in planning conferences and meetings; Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions and sets deadlines and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed; Assigns wide range of responsibilities throughout Maintenance and Operations assigned shops, identifies, and reports daily progress and milestones; Assesses needs of the main hospital campus and satellite campuses; Supervises three (3) units of the Engineering Section: HVAC Unit, Plumbing/Electrical Unit, and Carpentry/General Maintenance Unit; and Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm Compressed/Flexible Schedule: Not authorized. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. This position is in the Competitive Service. Interchange Agreements with Other Merit System: Employees who occupy medical or medical-related positions and were appointed under 38 U.S.C. 4701(1) or (3) [formerly 38 U.S.C. 4104 (1) and (3)] must be serving in a full-time position without time limit and have served continuously for at least one year in this other merit system to be eligible to convert to the Title 5 System. Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment. Veterans' preference does not apply to internal merit promotion announcements.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: This position requires walking, standing, bending, sitting, crawling and climbing. Incumbent must have good vision, with or without glasses. May lift or carry tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. May occasionally lift and carry items over 50 pounds.
