This position is located in the Support Branch of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department. The MWR Department is responsible for establishing and efficiently maintaining all recreational and athletic facilities/activities, and for the safe and efficient operation of the Food and Beverage Division. The MWR Department provides support for Naval Support Activity and tenant commands located at NS Mayport.

Duties

Interprets construction and project renovation blueprints, prepares layouts and sketches, prepares purchase requests for tools, material and equipment needed. Work must be accurate and to specifications according to job requirements. Performs work in at least two of the following trades in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures and utilities from initial layout completion: Plumbing: Installs, modifies and repairs new and existing utility, supply and disposal system and equipment such as sewage, water, oil and gas distribution system, water closets, tubs, fire, sprinkler systems and showers. Works from building plans, blueprints and sketches. Carpentry: Uses skilled techniques to construct, install, repair and modify wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness. Assembles items using a variety of joining techniques and is skilled in the operation of general and precision carpentry and wood working equipment and is able to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions and acceptable appearance. Painting: Performs special coating methods such as marbling and graining using coating materials prepared in special as well as common ways and by applying coating techniques that ensure surfaces have a smooth-textured and decorative appearance and meet thickness and level requirements. Electrical: Installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, and troubleshoots, tests and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, system, associated fixtures, controls and equipment at a skilled journeyman level. Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawing, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, replacement, type, size, gauge, balance, load continuity and safe operation of electrical lines and lighting, circuits, systems, equipment and controls. Determines and places distribution panels, junction boxes, fittings and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduits, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices. Plans and lays out work, tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems and completing repairs and installations with little or no technical advice using a wide variety of test equipment such as voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, and ohmmeter. Masonry: Plans and lays out work to be done for repair, alteration or construction of exterior and interior surfaces and structures built of brick, block, glass block, terra cotta, stone and various artificial and natural stone. Cuts and shapes materials used for constructing and repairing window and door openings and corners. Ensures courses are laid evenly and that completed work blends with existing brickwork. Observes required safety, sanitation and hazardous waste disposal rules and regulations. Operates vehicle to transport tools and material to work site. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
  • Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.

  • May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
  • Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
  • A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
  • Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: A minimum of two years documented general experience, with two years specialized experience in the applicable trades, and sufficient to performing the duties of this position, as included in the description of duties above. Ability to read, write and follow appropriate plans and specifications. Ability to communicate verbally and preform all necessary math computations and measurements. Must have a valid Driver's License. Able to withstand prolonged standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and lifting up to 45 pounds unassisted. Incumbent is exposed to dirt, paint vapors and fumes. Must wear issued protective gear. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience.
