This Motor Vehicle Operator position is in the VISN 1 Laundry services located at the Brockton, MA campus. This position is a full-time at 40 hours per week.

Duties

The incumbent must be able to perform the duties required of the position without more than normal supervision. Typical duties include, but are not limited to: Operates gasoline, diesel, or electronic powered wheeled vehicles to haul cargo and fuel, transport passengers, or to tow to recover equipment. Drive and manage approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 14,400 to 80,000 lbs. Incumbent must be able to operate a vehicle with a gross weight in excess of 32,000 pounds. Push and pull carts onto trucks, carts weigh in excess of 800 pounds (on casters). Loading and unloading up to 32 carts at one facility. Overseeing or assisting others with the loading and unloading of cargo and making difficult judgments concerning the arrangement and securing of that cargo. Transport supplies, materials or equipment and tools through rural or urban areas, insuring that the load is properly distributed and balanced to prevent shifting and breakage while in transit. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Drives at this grade may exert moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on the tractor to hook-up service lines, lower landing gears, and climbing on the trailer to load or tie down cargo, and make limited emergency repairs such as replacing an electrical fuse or installing air in the tires on an open highway. May have to break ice pack and snow from couplings during all inclement weather. Must be able to climb into backs of trucks, lift and maneuver dock plates for safe loading and unloading. Must be able to push and pull carts onto trucks, carts weigh in excess of 800 pounds (on casters). Loading and unloading up to 32 carts at one facility. The driver operates the vehicle in all types of traffic, weather and in other types of driving conditions, and may be exposed to the dangers of serious accidents. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road construction and interchanging systems.
