Duties

You will evaluate emergency and administrative calls to determine type of response required (e.g., fire, police, and medical). You will operate a variety of communications equipment (e.g., CAD, Enhanced- 911 systems, (E-911) Enterprise Land Mobile Radio (ELMR). You will confirm the location and type of emergency (e.g., type of fire, medical emergency, vehicle accident) to dispatch manpower and vehicles required for the situation. You will instruct callers with life saving tips (e.g., gather vital information, first aid instructions) until emergency services arrive and caller agrees to end call.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain national standards and established protocols to perform EMD services to callers with medical emergencies.
  • You must be able to operate a computer keyboard.
  • You will be required to pass all agency training requirements (e.g., Telecommunicator 1, CPR certification and DoD HAZMAT Awareness Certification within 90 days of enter on duty and APCO or IAED EMD certification within 270 days of entry on duty).
  • You must have color vision adequate to distinguish between green, red, and yellow lights on alarm and equipment control panels and to read information from a multi-colored computer screen.
  • You must be able to clearly hear conversations over the phone and radio. and to distinguish between different audible alarm tones. Incumbent may use hearing correction devices to augment their natural hearing in order to meet the requirements listed.
  • You will be required to participate in the medical surveillance programs and will be required to take medical examinations to assess your medical qualifications for duty involving work with high level of stress.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience. GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Operating electronic computer-based systems for emergency (Police, fire, and or EMS) dispatching management; 2) Working multiple equipment/systems (e.g., Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, alarm systems, dispatch recording devices, multi-channel radios) during emergency situations; and 3) Disseminating information from incoming callers during emergency situations. GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of general experience in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that demonstrates progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled: 1) Operating radio communication equipment; 2) Receiving incoming telephone or alarm systems calls; and 3) Maintaining logbooks/records.

In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Applicants that do not meet the specialized experience for the GS-2151-05 as described above may qualify with the following education:

Successfully completed four years of education above high school level.

OR

Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equals one hundred percent of the qualifications requirement.

Applicants that do not meet the general experience for the GS-2151-04 as described above may qualify with the following education:

Successfully completed two years of education above high school level.

OR

Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of general experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equals one hundred percent of the qualifications requirement.
