This position is for Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) at Fort Drum, New York. FMWR includes Child and Youth Services, Business Recreation, and Support Services, which enable Soldier readiness, support the resiliency and well-being of Soldiers and Families.

Duties
Performs lifeguarding duties and limited management functions.
Ensures the safe operation of the pool, filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry and performs water test.
Responsible for teaching aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21, and assists with Shallow Water Egress Training (SWET or `Dunker') if the equipment/program is available.
Leads the work of other employees, passing on to other workers instructions received from the supervisor, and provides on-the job training to new employees.
Requirements

- Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with Army Regulation 215-3.
- This position requires a favorably adjudicated T1/NACI background investigation.
- An employer referred pre-employment physical examination is required. Must have current health assessment which documents good physical health, freedom from communicable disease in accordance with current Army policy.
- Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
- In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
- Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
- May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
- Work schedule will be irregular. The incumbent will be required to work, nights, weekends, holidays and/or special events.
- Lead lifeguards must have good vision (corrected vision if necessary) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.
- Conducts safety/health rule briefings to groups prior to use of the pool.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will possess the following:
a Lifeguarding and First Aid certificate (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent e.g. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS), AND
an American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional or CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent certifications (American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid), AND
one or more of the following Instructor ratings:
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGTI) authorization, or
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) authorization, or
Aquatic Exercise Association Instructor authorization (AEA), or
Adapted Aquatic Instructor authorization.
All certifications MUST be uploaded at the time of application.
