The primary purpose of this position, SHEET METAL MECHANIC, WG-3806-11, is to develop templates for, or lay out, construct, assemble, and install unconventional, one-of-a-kind sheet metal items, systems, or apparatus for a one-time project.
Duties
Plan and lay out work with a minimum of accompanying information, to fabricate, manufacture, assemble, and install unconventional, one-of-a-kind sheet metal items for a one-time project, or in support of experimental or testing activities.
Modify frame segments, such as metal structural members and reinforcements.
Use and maintain tools. Use basic hand and power tools such as hammers, chisels, band snips, band, and circle saws, squaring shears, seamers, bar folders, brakes, and stakes, and adapt them to special use for the specific project.
Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
TARGETED POSITION: This position is a developmental WG-10 Target WG-11 position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (WG-07). Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. Military Spouse candidates exercising their preference will be placed at the full performance level, if considered to be best qualified and selected.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3800 Metal Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation)
Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work
Dexterity (Assembly Disassembly Reassembly etc)
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work encompasses strenuous physical exertion when bending and shaping the more complex items in handling larger and bulkier items. Physical exertion is moderate and includes prolonged standing; climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding; working in cramped and awkward positions while installing items; and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and powered tools. Lifts items weighting over 25 pounds with human or mechanical assistance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works both inside and outside and is subjected to a moderate amount of noise and vibration from shop machines and to a variety of weather conditions. Subject to cuts, bruises, falls, and bums. Required to wear safety glasses when performing eye hazardous operations.
