The primary purpose of this position, SHEET METAL MECHANIC LEADER (AIRCRAFT) WL-3806-11, is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work.
Duties
Lead a team of trades and/or labor workers.
Perform nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led.
Periodically check supply materials and equipment, ensuring needed supplies and equipment are available to accomplish work assignments along with managing the Tool Control Program. Work along with crew members to set the pace, check work while in progress as well as when completed to ensure that the predetermine standards of quality established by the supervisor, work procedures, and sequence are met by all personnel.
Ensure that the crew abides by all rules, regulations, and policies established by higher authority relative to safety, security, fire prevention, training, and good housekeeping. Perform duties concerning hazardous waste management. Work to achieve and support quality improvement in all products and services.
Plan and lay out work with a minimum of accompanying information, to fabricate, manufacture, assemble, and install unconventional, one-of-a-kind aircraft sheet metal items for a one-time project or in support of experimental or testing activities.

- May be required to work shifts or uncommon tours of duty. Subject to call back to meet emergency situations.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WL-3800 Metal Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is: Ability to Lead or Supervise.

Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging)

Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation)
Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work
Dexterity (Assembly, Disassembly, Reassembly, etc.)
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work encompasses strenuous physical exertion when bending and shaping the more complex items in handling larger and bulkier items. Physical exertion is moderate and includes prolonged standing, climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding, working in cramped and awkward positions while installing items, and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and powered tools. Heavy lifting and carrying of items over 25 pounds and with mechanical or human assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside and is subjected to a moderate amount of noise and vibration from shop machines and to a variety of weather conditions. Subject to cuts, bruises, falls, and burns. Required to wear safety glasses when performing eye hazardous operations.
