Duties

As a Health Scientist (Policy and Issues Management) you will: Supervise a small contingent of positions. Plan and implement a comprehensive and integrated public health scientific program across the organizational unit and in concert with CDC goals and priorities and develops and maintains systems to analyze complex and highly visible actions such as legislation, executive directives, Departmental policy issuances, voluntary changes in practice by influential organizations or groups, as well as other influential statements of policy or other issues with the potential to impact public health science as well as on the division, center, and/or coordinating center. Provide direction and leadership to a team consisting of public health scientific policy and issues management staff. Manage the processes for the establishment and tracking of the organization's goal setting efforts and is responsible for the overall completeness and quality of a comprehensive plan. Coordinate complex evaluation tasks such as the application of agency, department, and/or government wide evaluation efforts including Program Assessment Rating Tool (PART) or other inquiries, audits, or reports conducted by the Department, CRS, or GAO, and is responsible for ensuring completeness and quality of the organization's submissions to these efforts.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/) at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: leading, formulating, implementing strategic direction for policy, partnership, evaluation, and communication related to public and environmental health programs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
