Duties
As a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST (SOCIAL MEDIA) at the GS-1035-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
Planning, organizing, executing, and evaluating the public affairs/communication aspects of command sponsored or supported joint training events and mission rehearsals.
Executing a comprehensive Public Affairs exercise/event integrating media relations, social media, community/Congressional relations, internal information, visual information, communication planning, and contingency/crisis response.
Representing the Joint Planning Support Element (JPSE) with a variety of installations, local government, public, civic, service, industry, educational, and media organizations.
Serving as an Element focal point for digital dissemination capabilities.
Participating in special projects and initiatives and performing special assignments.

- Suitable for Federal employment determined by a background investigation. Employee must obtain/maintain a Special Sensitive (Top Secret/SCI) security clearance.

- Travel and relocation expenses, if approved, will be paid IAW JTR and AFMAN 36-606
- The position is designated by the Air Force as a Test Designated Position (TDP) under the AF Civilian Drug Testing Program
- The incumbent may be required to travel (25 - 50%) away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
- This position is emergency-essential (E-E). In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, or designated alternate, must continue to perform the E-E duties until relieved by proper authority
- A pre-employment physical/medical examination is required and may be required on a periodic basis after appointment
- Deployment may require service at places in foreign areas where there exist conditions of civil insurrection, civil war, terrorism or wartime conditions which threaten physical harm or imminent danger to the health or well-being of the employee
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position
Qualifications
You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector as listed below:
Serving as a public affairs advisor and leader with emphasis involving social media.
Advising on the potential public reaction to proposed policies, plans, and actions through social media posts discussing supported military and contingency operations.
Implementing public affairs and social media tactics, techniques, and procedures to support and amplify senior leaders' priorities, mission and organizational objectives.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
