These positions are located within the U.S. Dairy Forage Research Center for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Madison, WI.
In this position, you will serve as a personal assistant to the Research Leader (RL) and other professional staff, coordinating a wide variety of administrative and clerical tasks essential to the program administration of the Management Unit.
Duties
Participates in program planning support work such as research project coordination, travel documentation, budget coordination/tracking, agreements, and purchasing/procurement of supplies and equipment.
Provides human resources administration and provides training and advisory services to the RL and professional staff in all program administrative procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Serves as the primary administrative business process point of contact for the unit.
Develops and implements new systems or administrative processes to meet unit needs.
Schedules conferences and meetings, including arranging logistics, preparing agendas, and notifying participants.
Serves as principal timekeeper to the location and provides technical pay and leave advice on routine matters.
Prepares graphics, photos, and slides, and creates tables and graphs based on statistical data for the RL and professional staff for use in presentations at meetings, workshops, and conferences.
Uses a variety of graphical, spreadsheet, and database software packages (e.g., QuatroPro, Excel) to obtain statistical data from published reports and manipulate data to produce tables and charts for program management and administrative use.

Qualifications
Time in grade: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
GS-06
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience performing administrative and clerical office tasks and procedures; reviewing documentation or materials for grammar, format, and completeness; and coordinating travel arrangements.
Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience preparing travel requests and vouchers for foreign or domestic travel; purchasing and procuring supplies and equipment; participating in program planning support work such as research project coordination or budget coordination; and advising staff on program administrative procedures ensuring compliance with regulations.

Physical Demands:
Work is essentially sedentary, however, requires some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers, books, or small parts. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Environment:
The work environment involves the everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
