Duties
The Maintenance Worker contributes to the mission of the Branch of Facilities Management by performing mixed duties of general maintenance on all office buildings, shops, residential dwellings, and all other buildings or grounds for which the Bureau is responsible for. The Maintenance Worker's duties consist of, but are not limited to:
Carpentry projects
Electrical maintenance, and repair
Plumbing maintenance, and repair
Boiler maintenance, and repair
Grounds keeping
Roofing maintenance, and repair
Heating equipment maintenance
Miscellaneous maintenance duties.
Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
-Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (screen-out).

-Ability to interpret instructions, blueprints, specifications, etc.
-Ability to use and maintain tools and operate and maintain equipment and use of measuring instruments.

Physical Demands: Good physical effort is required to maintain safe working practices and procedures. Incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladder, scaffolding, and platforms where parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Work requires standing, stooping, bending kneeling, climbing and working in tiring, cramped, and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Roofing materials may weigh up to 100 lbs. Occasionally incumbent may be required to lift heavier objects requiring assistance from material lifting devices or other workers.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside and is subject to all types of conditions from clean, welllighted and heated interior to unheated, dark, dusty crawl space; noisy, dirty and odorous areas. Occasionally, incumbent is required to work outside in inclement weather. Incumbent may be exposed to possibility of minor cuts, bruises, burns, injury from slips and falls, or limited possibility of more serious injuries such as the possibility of broken bones. To mitigate the risk, the incumbent will utilize protective equipment and clothing such as safety shoes, safety glasses or sunglasses, gloves, rain gear, hard hats, coveralls, respirators and other protective gear which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.

Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
