One Permanent Maintenance Worker position, to be filled in the Facility and Maintenance Department at the Whiteriver Service Unit (WRSU) in Whiteriver, Arizona. The incumbent will assist higher level maintenance workers in a variety of simple and routine tasks in the maintenance and repair of Clinic facilities and government quarters. The incumbent will be supervised by Maintenance Supervisor, Facilities Management Department, WRSU.
Duties
Assist in performing the installation or repair of electrical systems related to the hospital, government housing units, buildings, offices, and shops with limited assignments in the installation or repair of complex industrial and commercial electrical systems.
Assist in performing carpentry work to construct, install, and modify wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness.
Roofing installation and repair, concrete and masonry work, and flooring installation and repair are major components of this position.
Plumbing
Assist in performing plumbing work involving making repairs by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing and sealing defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal system such as dirty traps, sections of broken pipe, and leaky drains.
Heating
Assist in performing installation, maintenance, repair and modification of gas heaters, furnaces and other small domestic heating equipment
Periodically inspects and services heating units and related components and parts.
Painting Worker
Performs painting chores using standard coating methods such as brushing, rolling, and spraying by the use of coating materials that are prepared according to specific direction, and by the application of coating techniques that ensure surfaces are fully coated, protected, and free from drips and runs.
Prepares surfaces by methods such as sanding and wire brushing. Incumbent selects tools, decides on standard methods and techniques to use, and carries out the work with check during its progress.
Grounds Keeper Worker
Performs duties involves the upkeep of Hospital grounds requiring the use of common hand tools and heavy power equipment.
performs emergency repair on small engine equipment during breakdown and performing semi-annual preventive maintenance.
knowledge of operating backhoe tractor, push and riding lawnmower, chainsaw and weed eater.
Janitorial Work
Janitorial work to quarters to ensure they are ready for occupancy by new tenants.
Performs cleaning of equipment and cleaning chemicals
Qualifications

Experience for this position includes; the ability to follow oral or written instructions and/or work orders; performing maintenance mechanic duties, including use and apply standard building techniques, practices, and codes, read and understand blueprints, sketches and schematics, read and understand work orders, sketches and drawings in order to complete assigned work.
Typical work assignments: Performance of visual examination and operation tests to determine the need for, and the performance of, repair work on a level of difficulty and responsibility of trades such as in Electrical Work, Carpentry Work, Plumbing Work, Heating Equipment, Painting Work, Grounds Keeper Worker, and Janitorial duties.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
