This position is located in the Obesity and Diabetes Clinical Research Section (ODCRS), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH).
This position provides nursing services for research clients undergoing clinical investigation and treatment.
Duties
As a Nurse (Clinical Research) you will:
Provide comprehensive nursing care specific to clients in a clinical research setting.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate clients by taking into consideration their physical, mental, social, and spiritual and age specific needs.
Perform complex and intricate procedures related to clinical research practices.
Evaluate clients self-care behaviors and teaches/counsels/clients/families who have health care needs using demonstrations, handouts, audio-visual aids and other techniques that are age specific.
Prepare a variety of nursing reports such as the daily nursing report, incident reports, census report, etc.
Assist the scientific investigator in developing quality control measures for all research patient procedures and tests and laboratory procedures in a particular protocol.
Requirements

- Must be able to bend, stoop, walk, stand, and climb, and work in cramped positions with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Position requires passing the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses.
- Weekend hours, nights, regular or rotational shifts, holiday hours may be required. This position has on-call or call-back requirements.
- You must be able to lift and move heavy items weighing 35 lbs. with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
In order to meet the Basic Qualifications Requirements for a Nurse (Clinical Research), GS-610, you must have:
A. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. Note: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools;
AND
B. Passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN);
AND
C. Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additionally, to qualify at the GS-10 level, you must meet one of the following qualification requirements:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing comprehensive nursing care to patients based on the physician's medical care plan and the physical, mental and emotional needs of the patient; observing patients' conditions, assessing nursing needs, and providing required nursing care; administering prescribed oral medications, hypodermic injections and intravenous feeding; observing and recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration data and effects of medication; preparing patients for tests, examinations and treatment; preparing patients for surgical and/or diagnostic procedures; setting-up, operating and monitoring specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, respirators, defibrillators, etc. AND possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
