The position is at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center (OKCVAMC) in the Prosthetics Department. The primary purpose of the position is to support the clinical operations and administrative functions of the OKC VAMC Prosthetics Clinical Lab by fitting orthotic devices and therapeutic footwear and other devices as certified, assisting with clinic/fabrication lab organization and daily maintenance, and ensuring that all work is performed following safety and compliance standards.
Duties

The incumbent will maintain certification and/or licensure as an ABC Certified Fitter Orthotics or BOC Certified Orthotic Fitter, and ABC Certified Fitter-Therapeutic Shoes and may have or obtain other qualifying credential from the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics Inc. (ABC) or the Board of Certification in Prosthetics and Orthotics (BOC) or State or National Agency/Organization with equivalent standards.
Duties include but are limited to the following:
Patient evaluation, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, continuation of the treatment plan and practice management.
Fitting certain custom fitted, prefabricated and off-the-shelf orthoses.
Performs evaluations of the patient's needs for prefabricated orthoses which includes, but is not limited to, the evaluation and documentation of the patient physical assessment, anthropometric data, circulation, skin integrity, posture, balance and safety, and orthotic requirements.
Responsible for formulation and implementation of a treatment plan based upon an assessment to alleviate limitations and enhance function.
Verification of prescription/documentation, a recommendation incorporating patient and/or caregiver input, development of functional goals, analysis of shoe construction needs and design requirements, measuring patient for shoes, evaluation of shoe/device fit, minor adjustments to accommodate individual anatomic contours, consultation with and/or referral to other health care professionals, acquisition of physical assessment data, adjustments to accommodate individual anatomic contours, structural evaluation, documentation of patient education and instruction, documentation of patient encounters.
Develop and utilize a follow-up treatment plan that ensures successful orthotic outcomes, patient health and quality of life which includes, but is not limited to documentation of functional changes, performing adjustments to ensure successful outcomes, documentation of on-going patient education and instruction.
Assembly of devices according to instruction and/or manufacturer guidelines. Includes trimming and finishing the devices as required for fitting.
Assist in ordering and maintaining materials inventory.
Ensure that the fittings are performed in a manner compliant with local, state, and national standards.
Adheres to clinical practice management guidelines, policies and procedures including but not limited to local, state, and federal laws and regulations, patient care policies, safety guidelines, manufacturer's warranties, conditions for use and return guidelines.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you meet one of the following requirement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level that includes: Use of common tools, measuring devices, machines and materials related to fitting and adjusting of orthotic devices and therapeutic shoes, provide non-custom therapeutic shoes and non-custom multi-density inserts, assist in resolution of most fitting concerns. Training in the Field of Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics by a nationally recognized credentialing body, i.e., The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABCOP) and/or The Board for Certification (BOC) or equivalent State or National Agency/ Organization.

One year of graduate education or an internship that is directly related to the work of this position. Transcripts required.

An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above. Transcripts required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-08: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level that includes: Uses common tools, measuring devices, machines and materials related to fitting and
adjusting of orthotic devices and therapeutic shoes. Provides non-custom therapeutic shoes and non-custom multi-density inserts. Operates within a scope of practice that is specific to fitting certain custom fitted, prefabricated and off-the-shelf orthoses. Resolves most fitting concerns. Possesses a current certification and is in good standing with The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) or The Board for Certification (BOC) as an Orthotic Fitter, Therapeutic shoe fitter, Pedorthist or Orthotics assistant.

Physical Requirements: The position demands a moderate degree of exertion and a high degree of dexterity, long periods of standing and long-distance walking from clinic to clinic. The work requires some physical exertion, prolong periods of standing and working at a variety of machines, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, and stretching to work on devices and appliances. There may be recurring lifting (not to exceed 50lbs) and moving of moderately heavy supplies and equipment such as wheelchairs and durable medical equipment. The position will also require the work of power tools and various machinery.
