This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Sports Specialist (Head Coach - Softball) you will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance within the Division of Athletics, as one of several coaches at Haskell Indian Nations University (HINU), and to provide, as needed, instructional support and recruitment for those sports therefore establishing healthy minds and bodies that are developed in sports activities.
Duties
As a Sports Specialist (Head Coach - Softball) GS-0030-7/9/11, your typical work assignments may include the following:
Responsible for direct supervision of assistant coaches, and any other personnel management duties as required to maintain a successful staff.
Coach student athletes in their growth and development with a focus on techniques, fundamentals, training, conditioning, and other aspects related to athletic success.
Develop and implement team and individual strategies for athletic success.
Work with NAIA Compliance Office to ensure athletic programs and student athletes are complying with all rules and regulations.
Ensure the University athletic programs comply with NAIA rules governing recruiting, playing and practice seasons, sports camps, and clinics.
Oversee the University's eligibility process of student athletes.
Designs and/or instructs university courses appropriate to the credentials held in areas such as health, community health, exercise science, sports management, education, athletics, or others as directed.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
GS-7: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service that includes: Working independently to manage and coach at the collegiate level. Providing direct supervision to assistant coaches. Developing and executing practice and training plans for student athletes. Overseeing the University's eligibility process of student athletes. Coaching and instructing student athletes in their growth and development with a focus on techniques, fundamentals, training, conditioning, and other aspects related to athletic success. -OR-
EDUCATION: Successfully completed one full year of appropriate graduate level education (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or equivalent) in a field of study directly related to the work of this position -or- Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement which included one of the following: 1) Class standing-applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class, based on completed courses; or (2) Grade-Point Average-applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (3) Election to membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society -membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. In order to be creditable under this provision, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. This education needs to be in a major study of physical education. -OR-
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience when combined together meets 100% of the total requirements for the position. To compute, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
GS-9: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service that includes: Working independently to manage and coach at the collegiate level. Providing direct supervision to assistant coaches. Developing and executing practice and training plans for student athletes. Overseeing the University's eligibility process of student athletes. Coaching and instructing student athletes in their growth and development with a focus on techniques, fundamentals, training, conditioning, and other aspects related to athletic success. Demonstrating a strong working knowledge and understanding of NAIA conference rules. Designing and implementing instructional programs for teams and student athletes. -OR-
EDUCATION: Have a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related. This education needs to be in a major study of physical education. -OR-
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience when combined together meets 100% of the total requirements for the position. GS-11: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service that includes: Working independently to manage and coach at the collegiate level. Providing direct supervision to assistant coaches. Developing and executing practice and training plans for student athletes. Overseeing the University's eligibility process of student athletes. Coaching and instructing student athletes in their growth and development with a focus on techniques, fundamentals, training, conditioning, and other aspects related to athletic success. Demonstrating a strong working knowledge and understanding of NAIA conference rules. Designing and implementing instructional programs for teams and student athletes. Designing and/or instructing university courses appropriate to the credentials held in areas such as health, community health, exercise science, sports management, education, athletics, or others. Maintaining data and records for assessment, grades, and other metrics for student success and achievement. -OR-
EDUCATION: Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a major study of physical education. -OR-
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience when combined together meets 100% of the total requirements for the position. When combining education with experience, first determine the applicant's total qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then determine the applicant's experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.
