Human Resources Assistants work closely with specialists, managers, employees, and applicants in support of a variety of HR related topics.

Duties
Assists HR Specialists with the full range of clerical tasks associated with pre-screening, onboarding/offboarding, tracking training requirements, maintaining case files, and other various HR tasks.
Conducts pre-employment screening to include extending job offers, initiating medical/drug screening and background investigations, and coordinating effective dates.
Utilize automated HR systems to timely process a variety of personnel actions in accordance with the Guide to Processing Personnel Actions.
Gathers and verifies required information to process personnel actions such as new appointment, awards, promotions, within grade increases, terminations, and other similar actions.
Researches HR regulations, laws, and polices to responds to employee and applicant inquiries regarding general hiring procedures and requirements to be followed for various types of staffing actions.
Maintain administrative records, including electronic Official Personnel Files (eOPFs) for employees.
Reviews documents for completeness and accuracy.
Requirements

Qualifications

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level or that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following example:
To qualify for the GS-5 you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level. Examples of specialized experience may include: Experience tracking, coordinating, updating, editing, compiling and maintaining files and records. Assisting with in-processing new employees. Reviewing administrative documents for completeness and accuracy. Experience in using computer applications for functions such as word processing, spread sheets, and database management. Ability to read, interpret, and apply regulations and standard procedures. Must have skill in time management, multi-tasking, organization, communication, and interpersonal relation skills sufficient to relate to internal and external customers appropriately and courteously both verbally and in writing. Maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive matters. OR 4 years education above high school. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work; OR have an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above.
To qualify for the GS-6 you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Examples of specialized experience may include: Providing customer service, answering routine phone/email inquiries from internal/external customers. Researching, and applying basic HR regulations, procedures, and operations to accomplish routine tasks. Coordinating on-boarding and in-processing procedures with new employees and supervisors. Reviewing administrative documents for completeness. Maintaining automated databases to track information and extract data used to generate documents, reports, and records. Verifying eligibility for promotions, pay increases, and tenure. Calculating service computation dates. Utilizing the guide to processing personnel actions to process a variety of personnel actions in an automated pay system.
*As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary. Some work may require periods of standing, walking, or carrying items.
Work Environment: Work is conducted in a typical office setting with cubicles, adequate light, heat, and ventilation.
