This position is located within the Alexandria VA Health Care System in Alexandria, Louisiana which includes 6 community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). Assigned under Engineering Services, Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Section, the electrician installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests, and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls and equipment.

Duties

Installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains electrical lines, circuits, fixtures, and equipment Installs, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, and tests secondary power lines and circuits supplying power to distribution panels and various other systems Determines placement of distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections Installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical devices Apply National Electrical Code requirements to ensure the proper and safe operation of electrical systems and equipment Interpret building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings Plans the routing, placement, and arrangement of industrial systems or those similar in complexity Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools, and test equipment such as meggers, multi-meters, ground fault interrupter, circuit analyzers and breaker testers Serves as Purchase Card holder Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm; Subject to change based on the needs of the facility/service. Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD06225A Physical Requirements: Repairs and installation are made from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. Requires incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work requires frequent lifting and carrying of tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds and less often up to 40 pounds. Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): May be authorized.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Current State Electrical Journeyman license is preferred. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
