About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25.
This position is with the 7th Signal Command, 106th Signal Brigade, Command Section located at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Duties
Primarily responsible for the planning, design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, problem resolution and network asset management of the Installation Campus Area Network (ICAN) using CISCO,
Brocade, and Microsoft operation systems. Develops and implements applications, plans and documents controlled maintenance and modification of the Wide Area Network (WAN).
Design and implements complex network strategies that incorporate new and emerging technology and equipment into the existing networks. Integrates new bridges, routers, and switches into the networks to increase throughput and reduce network traffic.
Troubleshooting, problem resolution, maintaining current versions of operating systems and reviewing vendor documentation to determine impact of new operating systems for ICAN equipment.
Ensures compliance with information systems security monitoring notification procedures. Implements vendor security measures, Defense Information System Agency’s (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG)
and Army Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) and other directives.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance, IT Level I.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, 'Condition of Employment for Certain
- Civilian Positions Identified as Critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program,' or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
- Incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training and obtain the required certification/recertification for this position as outlined in DoDM 8140.03,
- Cyberspace workforce qualification and management program, dated 15 Feb 2023 or updated version and/or additional guidance incumbent to their position
- within six months Employee will update certifications, as appropriate, to maintain 'current' status.
- This position is designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster)
- the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Temporary Duty for travel up to 10% may be required.
- Must possess a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe one-year specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by: Planning and troubleshooting network connectivity issues to help maintain computer platforms; Operating and maintaining network management tools CISCO Prime and NetCool to perform network analysis and security; Analyze complex problems and recommend resolutions; Networking equipment components, such as routers, switches and fiber optics.
