This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Eighth Coast Guard District, Sector Houston Galveston in Houston, TX.
Duties
The position serves as a Port Security Specialist within the Sector's Contingency Planning and Force Readiness (CPFR) Department. The selectee prepares, validates, and exercises plans to mitigate port security contingencies that apply to Coast Guard authorities. As well as serving as the port security subject matter expert responsible for the implementation and enforcement of Executive Order 10173, as amended, the Ports and Waterways Safety Act of 1972, as amended, Maritime Transportation Security (MTSA) of 2002, Security and Accountability of Every Port (SAFE Port) Act of 2006, and other Coast Guard maritime security enabling authorities at the Sector level.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Qualifications
At the GS-12, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in federal service is required. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Examples of specialized experience include: providing Maritime Security preparedness planning, subject matter expertise, and technical support for Facility and Vessel Security Plans and Area Maritime Security Plans (AMSPs) and exercises; familiarity with Area Maritime Security (AMS) procedures including the development and management of responses for harbor and waterway security operations; assisting in coordinating, developing, maintaining, testing, and implementing AMSPs in support of Ports, Waterways, and Coastal Security (PWCS) preparedness planning and incident management; performing port security liaison activities; and developing new security programs, policies, procedures, or guidelines related to natural disasters, oil/chemical discharges, or terrorist threat incidents.
