This Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) Teleradiology PACS Coordination position is assigned to Radiology Service within the Ralph H. Johnson VA Healthcare System. This position works with the tele radiologists on-site at the RHJVAMC who provide radiology coverage for other VA facilities within VISN 7.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to: Ensuring all Tele-Radiologists workstations are set up to function properly and in conjunction with the VISN 7 Medical Centers in the program. Assists with local Vista Radiology, PACS support activities and general ADPAC duties as needed by the RHJVAMC PACS Manager in Radiology. Provides constant monitoring and feedback to teleradiology doctors during the evening shifts. Provides first line technical PACS and dictation software support during their tour for the program. Fixes broken and corrupted studies and reports; splits and merges studies and reports as needed. Works closely with IT specialists and Biomed Engineering as needed. Assists with the plans, installation, testing and implementation of PACS and related systems including application systems under the guidance of the facility PACS manager, networking interface software and system administrative software. Assists with PACS and Biomedical personnel assigned to Radiology, Vista Imaging users, and support personnel on computer related matters to ensure that all issues are adequately addressed, and interface activities are conducted as effectively and efficiently as possible. Assists all end users in the Radiology Service, including TeleRadiology program with PACS related issues. Performs daily analysis of all exams, ensuring proper transmission of images, completion of imaging reports and completion of exams. Provides training to radiologists program in proper and efficient use of imaging hardware and software in the use of PACS, Vista and CPRS. Provides analysis to Chief of Radiology when requested to identify problems, gathers data, and proposes solutions to problems and barriers to establishment of an efficient, cost effective program environment. Keeps abreast of image related computer software developments and applications packages throughout the VA and the community as well as current developments in related to hardware used by the Vista Radiology and commercial PACS system. Support and maintain the requirements of applicable accreditation and survey requirements imposed on the service line by JCAHO, OSHA, FDA, NRC and other regulatory agencies, including inspection criteria and grading methods, as they affect the needs and demands upon the administrative management of the various divisions. Knowledge of JCAHO requirements and other regulatory requirements. Maintain continuing education requirements, including RHJVAMC requirements such as Radiation Safety, Fare and Safety classes, Infection control, etc. Other imaging duties as assigned by Radiology Management as well as the PACS Manager. Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography (R). Must maintain BLS. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.] Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).] English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT), GS-09. Applicants must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08), directly related to the position that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. Employees at this level are fully functional as an advanced DRT and carry out their assigned tasks independently. DRTs at this level may have varying assignments including special and complex imaging procedures beyond the full performance level, clinical instruction, and basic QM type duties within the program. Regardless of the nature of the specific assignment, the work must be of sufficient scope and complexity to meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform at this level. At the GS-08 level, ALL of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities must be demonstrated: Ability to check system for operation and assess acceptable performance based on established guidelines. Knowledge of calibration parameters and the ability to make adjustments as needed. Knowledge of patient's clinical record, diagnosis, and laboratory results. Ability to monitor patient's physiologic changes during the procedure and keep the radiologist informed. Skill in using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealings with the customer base, patients, staff, family, visitors, and volunteers. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy, recognizing unusual images and determining proper positioning to best demonstrate areas of interest. ADDITIONALLY, applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): *Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures. Skill to demonstrate appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers. *Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure. Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography. Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques and universal precautions. Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-08. Physical Requirements: The individual must have the physical ability to perform job-related duties which require heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over, standing up to 6 hours, wearing PPE (Lead Apron) up to 6 hours, bending, transferring. stooping, stretching, walking, pushing, or pulling, reaching above shoulders, use of both hands (hands and fingers), twisting and carrying of moderately heavy articles without assistance from another patient care provider or significant other. Movement of moderately heavy equipment is generally power assisted such as portable machines. Positioning of patients who are disabled may require considerable effort and working in awkward positions. Heavy lifting of incapacitated patients is done only with help of other employees and devices. Must also be able to speak, see and hear. A health examination must be successfully complete prior to this assignment and periodically thereafter as required by the Employee Health Clinic policy. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
