About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. Youth Facilities and daily childcare available. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center, (Mass transportation is available at minimal cost.) Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports and recreation activities.

Duties

Serve as an assistant to Human Resources Specialists working in a Civilian Human Resources Service Center. Perform a wide variety of technical support duties in the Human Resources function of Recruitment and Placement. Provide recruitment and placement support services to Human Resources Specialists including planning, coordinating, and developing facts related to problems that arise in the area of responsibility. Conduct recruitment and examining activities for common lower-grade positions. Use personnel computer, word processing and/or other office automation equipment and various software programs to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve and print a variety of documents.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is subject to Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel up to 10%.

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. For the GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Providing customer service to customers related to human resources matters; 2) Utilizing automated systems to complete tasks such as reviewing and printing new hire documents for in-processing, preparing routine reports, coding personnel actions, and etc.; and 3) Assisting new hires with onboarding processes such as scheduling appointments for fingerprints, drug test, physicals and onboarding forms. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. For the GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Providing customer service to customers related to human resources matters; 2) Utilizing automated systems to complete tasks such as reviewing and printing new hire documents for in-processing, preparing routine reports, coding personnel actions, and etc.; 3) Assisting new hires with onboarding processes such as scheduling appointments for fingerprints, drug test, physicals and onboarding forms; and 4) Reviewing job requirements to determine qualifications for non-competitive actions for lower grade positions (i.e. 120 days temporary promotions, schedule A appointments, VRA appointments, etc.). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
