About the Position: The position is located at the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE), Directorate of Public Works, Ft. Moore, GA. The "Maneuver Center of Excellence" is located 100 miles south of Atlanta and is adjacent to Columbus, GA and Phenix City, AL. The geography and climate are ideal for year-round military training

Duties

Provide long-range resource planning, program development and implementation and daily management of the various Ft. Moore Natural Resources Management Programs such as Endangered Species Management and Fish and Wildlife Management. Direct the Natural Resources Operations Section activities including staffing, budget, and administrative actions in support of training land protection on the large Army training installation. Develop local policies, technical specifications, and standards for timber marking, forest inventory, timber harvest, reforestation, wildfire suppression, prescribed burning, road and firebreak maintenance. Furnish professional and technical instructions and assistance on all phases of Forestry work. Create local policies, technical specifications and standards for insect and disease control, pesticide application, ecosystem monitoring and modeling, erosion control, endangered species and other natural resources management activities.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Pre-employment and annual physical are required
  • Position is subject to be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week in case of emergency to suppress forest fires to include weekend shift assignments.
  • CDL Class B license is required.
  • One-year Supervisory Probation is required

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in forestry; or a related subject-matter field that included a total of at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours of course work was in forestry. The curriculum must have been sufficiently diversified to include courses in each of the following areas: Management of Renewable Resources -- study of the science and art of managing renewable resources to attain desired results. Forest Biology -- study of the classification, distribution, characteristics, and identification of forest vegetation, and the interrelationships of living organisms to the forest environment. Forest Resource Measurements and Inventory -- sampling, inventory, measurement, and analysis techniques as applied to a variety of forest resources. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in forestry, or at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours were in forestry. The requirements for diversification of the 24 semester hours in forestry are the same as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes implementing the operations of a natural resources management program; 2) Coordinating work efforts with unit personnel to ensure timely completion of work plans for the forestry program; AND 3) Making professional evaluations for land management decision-making. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
