Requirements

  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate SECRET security clearance for the position.
  • Continued employment in this position is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the mandatory training specifically identified for the position.
  • The incumbent of this position description must have at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the Government Travel Credit Card (GTC) as a condition of employment.
  • Federal employees currently serving in the excepted service (Title 32) must acknowledge they will voluntarily leave the Title 32 excepted service by accepting an offer of employment for this NG Title 5 excepted service position.
  • Position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration and will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
  • Must possess a valid PR state driver’s license to operate government motor vehicle in accordance with Service specific Vehicle Operations Directives.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

DUTIES: As a MILITARY & FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST (NGT57014P1), GS-0301-9, you will provide support in the administration of Military & Family Readiness Program (SFRP) services for the Army National Guard within the State Family Program. This is achieved by performing assignments designed to provide familiarity with the Family Program, community services, effective relations with supporting social service and emergency organizations, recruit and train volunteers, promote resilience and financial literacy through targeted life skills training, and the development of human resources program referral networks. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training which provided a general knowledge of principles of organization, management, and administration. Compiling reports, letters, memoranda, etc., and required person-to-person contacts to convey information. Progressively responsible experience which demonstrates the ability to provide technical guidance and assistance in the type of work or in comparable work of the position to be filled. Experience using computer and automation systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least ONE (1) year of the specialized experience at the next lower-level GS-07 or the equivalent TWENTY-FOUR (24) months of specialized experienceperforming or supervising duties such as serving as fully independent advisor within geographical area of responsibility in accomplishing all objectives of the Soldier & Family Readiness Program (SFRP) for the Army National Guard; providing input at the State level, inclusive of family readiness, family assistance, employment outreach, volunteer training and management and improvement of quality of life and well-being of Service members and families; ensuring accurate and timely input of record for all applicable Service Members and Family case information; conducting briefings at the local, unit and state levels; managing and operating family assistance center and provide assistance to commands within geographical area of responsibility; providing information resource referral and non-medical administrative case management across all essential services; developing and maintaining a directory of resources, agencies and organizations that are available; establishing recurring outreach contact with each Service member's Designated Individual; providing training and technical support to Commanders and Family Readiness Liaisons; conducting informal and formal training and recruiting of volunteers; planning and conducting workshops and seminars; assisting higher headquarters in planning and coordinating resources for family assistance at deployment cycle support; providing technical support and training in support of unit family readiness.

Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, in an accredited college or university, is equivalent to the GS-05 position, one (1) full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement is equivalent to a GS-07 position, master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related, is equivalent to a GS-09 position,(i.e., 36 weeks of substantially full-time hours, or the equivalent) of the required experience. Courses must be directly related to the work of the position.

NOTE:
In addition, completion of courses such as the Officer Advanced Course, Squadron Officer School, Command and Staff Collage, Air and Army War College, National Security Management Course and other comparable level will be credited at the rate if 1 month of education for 2 months of specialized experience.
