You will serve as a Industrial Equipment Repairer in the Temporary Services (Shop 99), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will inspect, repair, and maintain industrial dry dock equipment and machinery, as well as equipment and related components in support of sewage, steam distribution, saltwater, and waste treatment plant systems. You will assist higher graded mechanics on assignments involving major systems or machinery by disassembling and assembling simpler components and assemblies, and locating and repairing or replacing defective parts and components. You will remove, repair, install and align reducing valves, safety valves, stop valves, sluice valve guides and discs, pumps, mixers and agitators. You will assist senior mechanics in the reworking of air, salt water, steam distribution, and fresh water systems. You will set up and operate machine tools (drill presses, precision grinders) to manufacture small components such as bearings and seals. You will perform periodic preventive maintenance requiring the dismantling, cleaning, lubricating, repairing, and adjusting of dry dock support equipment. You will inspect pump wells, sluice pits and caissons to verify that areas have not been breached and that uncontrolled flooding has not occurred. You will operate and maintain environmental response equipment and systems including dry dock dewatering, barge pumping, and small boat and oil skimmers.

• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• You must be willing and able to work onboard ships.
