You will serve as an INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will dismantle, inspect, troubleshoot and test a wide range of industrial dry dock equipment as well as related components in support of sewage , steam, distribution, saltwater and waste treatment plant systems. You will remove, repair install and align reducing valves, safety valves, stop valves, sluice valve guides and discs, pumps and mixer and agitators. You will disassemble, repair and rebuild component parts of general industrial plant machinery and equipment including pumps and sluice gates. You will perform preventive maintenance requiring the dismantling, cleaning, lubricating and adjusting of dry dock support equipment including various types of pumps, flooding gates safety valves, piping hydraulic valves and other related machinery. You will perform security watch inspections to ensure continuous operation of flood alarms and automatic dewatering equipment. You will operate and maintain environmental response equipment and systems including dry dock dewatering, barge pumping and small boat and oil skimmers.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
