NNSA, we work on the coolest projects!! The successful candidate for this position will serve as the Technical Director providing design management expertise and technical oversight of its major capital line-item projects at multiple NNSA sites.

Duties

As a Lead General Engineer, you will: Lead a team of federal and contractor employees in the role of a Technical Director to provide oversight of Management and Operating (M&O) contractor at NNSA sites for design of major capital line-item projects. Provide high degree of technical leadership to the team in ensuring that project design and construction schedules are met. Ensure conceptual, preliminary and final designs are developed by the M&O contractors to meet project requirements and reviewed for accuracy, adequacy and constructability. Provide oral and written briefings and reports to NNSA leadership and external regulators and stakeholders. Evaluate, conduct causal analysis and propose solutions to complex technical problems of the type encountered in major capital-line item projects. Administration of a Project Team which consists of senior members responsible for coordination and resolution of issues associated with high hazard and/or technically complex projects in the areas of work quality and accuracy, work prioritization and schedule adherence.

Education

All applicants must meet the basic requirements of the General Engineer occupational series. Transcripts or other proof of required education MUST be included in application package.General Engineer Series 0801:

Degree: professional engineering. The curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

OR

Combination of education and experience: college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. There are alternate methods to meeting the engineering educational requirement (e.g., holding current professional engineering registration, having passed the EIT examination, or having completed specified academic courses or a related degree).
