About the Position: This is a Term position not to exceed 5 years and cannot be made permanent.
Duties
Plan and conduct phases of a diverse Forestry program.
Collect data on specific phases of work, analyze data resulting from inspection and survey findings, consolidate data into reports and make recommendations concerning appropriate control measures and relative urgency or timing or control actions.
Develop, plan, and conduct studies for the effective utilization of remotely sensed data and GIS in the overall management of field office programs.
Collect and transcribe data form sources such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS) photo mosaic maps, topographic maps, and other databases.
Serve as work leader over a group of Forestry Technicians; distributing and balancing workload, training new employees, and checking work in progress or completed work.
Requirements
- Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
- This position has a 45-pound heavy lifting requirement.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Must be able to obtain a pesticide application license with in 1 year of coming on board.
- The incumbent may be required to work odd tours of duty, weekends, overtime, and at night.
- Must be able to obtain Wildland Firefighter Type 2 certification within 1 year of coming on board.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Participating in a variety of forest management activities (e.g., timber cruising, timber marking, timber sales, herbicide application, clearing forest roads, and prescribed burning); and 2) maintaining forestry equipment to support forest management operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
