You will serve as a PLASTIC FABRICATOR SUPERVISOR I in the COATINGS & COVERINGS SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. ***TEMPORARY POSTION NOT TO EXCEED 1 YEAR AND MAY BECOME PERMANENT WITHOUT FURTHER COMPETITION.***

Duties

You will participate in personnel matters concerning subordinates, including performance rating, leave request, disciplinary and commendatory action, promotions, demotions, transfers, separations, grievance, and beneficial suggestions. You will enforce safety, fire, and other regulations and maintain good “housekeeping” in work areas supervised. You will train subordinates in work methods and procedures, proper use of tools and equipment, safe work practices and operation of new equipment. You will conduct pre-job briefing on technical requirements associated with the need to use personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 general principles of ethical conduct at 5 cfr 2635.101.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: Ability to plan division of workload among employees based on the capabilities of available manpower, materials, machines, weather conditions, and shifts in priority of projects. Resolving work problems and taking necessary corrective action to overcome such delays as bottlenecks, equipment breakdown, and material shortages. Inspecting works in progress and upon completion ensuring efficiency, economy, and safety of operations. Planning sequence of operations and work steps for groups of employees supervised. Setting up and operating of molding machine to manufacture items from thermoplastic and rubber material.
