Duties
Employee serves as a crewmember protecting life and property.
Responds to fire alarms, natural gas leaks, wildland fires and fights fire requiring performance of firefighting tasks of moderate difficulty involving structures, equipment, facilities; crashed, burning aircraft; fuel, chemical, brush fires.
Employee performs maintenance, operational, housekeeping, emergency, and standby duties.
Operates radios, fire reporting systems, and computer modem for hazardous material information and performs maintenance tasks on firefighting apparatus, equipment, and facilities.
The employee is a first responder to medical emergencies and performs emergency medical procedures that are noninvasive.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a current, valid state driver's license to operate a motor vehicle up to one ton.
- This position requires the employee to work rotating shifts and 106 hours biweekly/53-hour work week.
- This position requires heavy physical lifting up to 45 pounds, climb ladders up to 100 feet, climb in and over obstacles and move charged fire hose lines.
- This position requires the employee to maintain a current Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) card.
- This position is subject to recall for all firefighting emergencies.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear the prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
- This position is mission essential in support of unscheduled installation training missions.
- This position is an inclement weather position.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) working as a fully trained member of a firefighting crew engaged in the protection of life and property; 2) respond to fires using firefighting and rescue techniques, equipment and extinguishing agents utilizing trained knowledge of firefighter theory and tools; AND 3) respond to contaminated and/or hazardous areas requiring the full performance of firefighting tasks to include: building ventilation, fire extinguishing, emergency medical service(s) (EMS) apparatus operation, protective performance techniques as needed in the event to protect life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, must be certified within the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Fire Fighter Certification system, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) at the Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Emergency Medical Technician.
