The purpose of this position is to assist in the enhancement of community policing through the development of resources and the oversight and provision of technical assistance to local law enforcement agencies. This includes oversight over the work of funded providers and subject matter experts to ensure the quality delivery of technical assistance including comprehensive assessments of law enforcement agency operations and activities involving the
use of social science methodologies.

The duties and responsibilities for a Social Science Analyst generally include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsibility for developing, administering, performing and evaluating research or scientific findings related to criminal justice and law enforcement issues.
Provide guidance on integrating evidence-based research into policy development to ensure fair and effective policing strategies.
Oversee the administration of federal grants related to community policing, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements.
Serve as senior level representative at meetings, conferences, agency and inter-agency groups and other panels on issues related to community policing, technical assistance or social scientific research findings.
Ensure the quality of technical assistance deliveries to law enforcement agencies and social science analysis efforts.
Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
- You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or trial period.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Social Science Analyst (Policing Assistance and Reform), (GS-0101-14), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to.
Basic Requirement:
Bachelor's degree or higher that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in a major field of study or specific course requirements in the behavioral or social sciences, or a degree in a related discipline appropriate to the position. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences that provided the applicant with knowledge of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts):
OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
For the GS-14:Specialized Experience: You must have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as: providing advise management on the evaluation and administration of projects focused on advancing knowledge and capabilities relevant to law enforcement agencies, community policing or criminal justice.
