About the Position: This Emergency Services Communication Technician position is located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Aberdeen Proving Ground is recognized as one of the world's most important research, development, testing and evaluation facilities for military weapons and equipment, and supports the finest teams.
Duties
Incumbent provides emergency police, fire, and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls, and coordinating appropriate personnel and equipment. Maintains an accurate status of emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response. This equipment includes police, firefighting, hazardous materials, technical rescue and ambulance. Provides Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) and Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) care through pre-arrival instructions to callers. The work requires knowledge of Law Enforcement and Fire Service Terminology, techniques, procedures, equipment and apparatus, hazardous materials, confined space rescue, structural firefighting, strategies & tactics and Incident Command. Requires knowledge of fire suppression systems, fire alarm detection equipment, and the installation's Integrated Commercial Intrusion Detection System (ICIDS) Alarms. Requires knowledge of facilities, their layout, types of structures and buildings or other similar characteristics of the installation for the purpose of dispatching emergency equipment and personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment DoD Telecommunicator I and II (or equivalent).
- Obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment DoD Hazmat Awareness.
- Obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment certification in Basic Life Support CPR.
- Obtain and maintain within 12 months of employment certification in Emergency Police Dispatch.
- Obtain and maintain within 12 months of employment certification in Emergency Fire Dispatch.
- Obtain and maintain within 12 months of employment certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch.
- Continuous current certification is a condition of employment. The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally.
- Work requires rotating shifts which includes days, nights, weekends and holidays.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Incumbent is required to work (weather essential) regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition (TFPCON) or installation closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
- Incumbent(s) required to obtain and maintain SECRET Security Clearance.
- Subject to call back and on-call as the mission requires.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes : 1) Answering 911 emergency calls for public safety services (e.g., police, fire, medical emergency services) to assist with evaluating the emergency and/or coordinating the appropriate response; 2) using telecommunications equipment such as computer aided dispatch systems,911 emergency telephone equipment, radio systems, and mass warning notification systems to dispatch public service assistance and/or communicate emergency information/instructions; and 3) preparing or maintaining data pertinent to emergency calls/alarms and/or dispatch activity. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service, (GS-06).
