The primary purpose of this position, MATERIALS EXPEDITER (FORK LIFT/MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR), WG-6910-07, is to route and expedite the movement of parts, end items, supplies, and materials within production and repair facilities to meet priority needs. The position requires the use of fork lift trucks and light motor vehicles.
Duties
Receive, route, and move parts, assemblies, components, and other materials into and out of industrial shops.
Select parts and materials to be turned into Supply.
Receive requests for parts and materials needed to support production work requirements.
Operate electric, LPG, or diesel powered fork lift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds as high as 168 inches.
Drive one or more types of trucks such as pickup, panel, and flatbed trucks, which typically have a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or less, on public roads at highway speeds.
Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a
safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Employee regularly handles weights of up to 40 pounds unassisted. Employee occasionally handles weights up to 60 pounds. Material handling devices and assistance of other workers are available for handling especially heavy items. Heavy exertion is frequent. Frequent kneeling, crouching, stooping, and walking are required. Work requires moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting fork lift trucks. Subject to possible strain caused by vibration of fork lift trucks. Occasionally may be required to make limited emergency repairs on vehicles, such as changing a flat tire.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Regularly exposed to possible injuries associated with handling equipment. Work is usually performed indoors in well lighted and well-ventilated shop areas. Fork lift operation work is normally inside in areas that are sometimes damp and drafty. Drives motor vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions. May be exposed to outdoor conditions for short time periods. Regularly exposed to shop noises, dirt, fumes, and vibrations.
